Action Plan For Project Based Learning

Project Based Learning

For the rest of the term, my year group has been given a task to have a positive impact on our community. My group consists of four people including myself, Jordanlee, Jessania and Michaela. The issue we have chosen is about senior citizenship. Websites like https://www.ageconcern.org.nz/ACNZ_Public/Loneliness_and_Social_Isolation_Research.aspx, http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/76229784/One-in-10-elderly-Kiwis-could-be-socially-isolated-Age-Concern-says and https://www.agingcare.com/articles/loneliness-in-the-elderly-151549.htm state that some elderly are left alone with no families and are 'isolated'. We have an idea to fundraise money for them and are still figuring out what we should do with it.

Persuasive Essay- Donald Trump should be impeached

He says he’s going to ‘Make America great again’ but how can it be great if he's leading it. Donald Trump should be impeached,  as he is racist, sexist, and has little knowledge of presidency.

Donald Trump is indeed racist. To name a few examples, he has said things like “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people,” “Sadly, because President Obama has done such a poor job as president, you won’t see another black president for generations!” and “Laziness is a trait in blacks.” These quotes are outrageous. He also didn’t allow any black or Hispanic people to work in his company, even though his company got sued for it. He claims that he is the “least racist person on earth.” But clearly is proven wrong. According to http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-london-attack-terror-parsons-green-muslim-ban-promotion-twitter-a7948911.html  Trump wants to stop all Muslims from entering the United States, and he uses the London terror attacks to promote his ‘Muslim Ban’. Unfortunately, he has said things far more unpleasant things.

Adding to the fact that he is racist, he is also sexist.  He’s called woman names like “Fat, pig, dog, slob, disgusting animal.” He thinks women should be a certain shape and size. Trump called a former Miss Universe “Miss Piggy” and “an eating machine.”The website http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/politics/donald-trump-sexism-tracker-every-offensive-comment-in-one-place/ states that Trump “has a tendency to criticise them for their looks - and sexist remarks.” The way he talks about women is appalling. Is having this man as the president benefiting the country or is it giving America a bad look?

As well as the fact that he is racist, he is sexist, he has little knowledge of presidency. As written in the website https://newrepublic.com/minutes/135170/donald-trump-never-read-presidential-biography-rarely-reads-anything-not-himself, Donald Trump has never read a presidential biography and rarely reads. Reading presidential biographies could help him become a better president because it could give him some advice. But he chose not to.  Having a racist and sexist president is already bad enough, but having someone who also doesn’t know much about his job is just insane.

Although Trump’s opponent for the presidency was a liar, leaving Trump responsible for the country was a mistake.

In conclusion, Donald Trump should be impeached, because he is racist, sexist and has little knowledge of presidency. So if you want America to be better than it is, I suggest you don't let this man continue to be president.

Persuasive Essay

Old buildings should be preserved for future generations to enjoy, as it is a symbol of what previous generations may have fought for, important to their country and a symbol of strength.

It is important for generations nowadays to see what the older generations have done and what they have fought for. These buildings can be landmarks.

Persuasive Essay (not finished)

Climate change is definitely not a fictional story made up by hippies, it has been proved in studies, there is no other explanation and …

Climate change is indeed true as it has been proved in scientific studies. According to the website https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/,  the amount of carbon dioxide being released in the air has never been so high, making global warming have an impact on everyone.

Apart from the fact that it has been proven in science, there is no other explanation for rising sea levels, shrinking glaciers, rising temperatures, and ocean acidification. This is due to a number of fossil fuels being released into the air.

Although some may think that global warming isn’t true because the earth is always changing and that there is not enough evidence, there is. The main cause of this is humans.

Creative Writing- The Fear Fall

The fear fall. Eighteen stories high, going down at a speed of around eighty kilometres. My friends and I waited in line for a good ten minutes. My friends waited excitedly. Although I wasn’t. Screams of those coming down from the fear fall replayed over and over in my head. The thought of falling off from the top frightened me. It was the perfect day for an adventure, the sun was shining and the sky was clear. Thinking about the weather distracted me from the concept of going up so high.

As the ride steadily climbed up to it’s peak, thoughts of backing out filled up in my head. I felt that I was risking my life. Though I was just being dramatic. But the thought of getting mocked for being a scaredy cat motivated me to stay put. I wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans and looked beneath my feet and saw people the size of ants. I bit my tongue, trying my hardest not to scream. The smell of pollution filled the air.

Image result for fear fallWe were dangling in the air for ages. Well, it felt like ages. I began to worry and panicked for a bit.  Everything seemed to be frozen, and for a moment it was silent. The breeze blew gently on my skin. Butterflies flew around inside my stomach and I felt nauseous. My friends and I braced ourselves before the big fall and before long….

Whoooosh! The ride sped down, racing to the bottom. Deafening screams of my friends hurt my ears. The satisfying feeling of the wind blowing against my skin made me feel like an eagle. The world seemed to slow down, even though we were going at a great speed.

Before we knew it, we reached the bottom. We hopped off the ride and talked amongst ourselves about how much we enjoyed it. Although I was frightened for most of the time in the air, I was glad that I did it. The experience was magical. Just remember at the end of the day challenging yourself may not seem as bad as it is. Give everything a try and don’t give up.

English Essay- The Outsiders

SEXXXY 1

In the book, Ponyboy is known to be brave.

An example of this is when he stood up for himself when the Socs teased him. Also when he rescued the children from the burning church.

This shows that being brave is an important attribute to have if you are in a gang. You have to be willing risk everything for your family, which is what Ponyboy would do. If the burning of the church happened earlier in the book, I don’t think Ponyboy would have the guts to save the kids. Mostly because when he ran away with Johnny to the mountains, staying in a church with a limited amount of food and water made him a stronger person.

The author did this to show the readers that not all gang members are bad people, some are willing to risk their lives to save people, and some of them are just good people and are in the gang just for the title.

This reminds of when PK was brave enough to stand up for himself and push Botha, because he was bullying him.
SEXXXY 2

Ponyboy is also known to be loyal.

His loyalty is demonstrated when he’s joins the rumble. Even though he was injured from the fire incident, he was still determined to fight alongside his family (The greasers)

This makes us understand that loyalty is an important thing to have if you are in a gang. Throughout the book Ponyboy’s loyalty becomes stronger, making his relationship with Johnny and The Greasers even stronger.

The purpose of this was to show that although gang members can be intimidating and seem cruel, they still have a heart and are loyal to one another.

This can be juxtaposed to a scene in Moana where loyalty was shown. In order for Moana to return the heart of Te Whiti she had to go through Te Ka. But she couldn’t do it without Maui and his fish hook. Maui was loyal enough to use his fish hook to defeat Te Ka, one of the most important things to him, even though if Te Ka burns his hook it’ll be destroyed.
SEXXXY 3

Another attribute of Ponyboy is kind/caring.

For instance, when he runs away with Johnny after he kills Bob. Although Johnny did something bad and could be sent to prison with him, Ponyboy was loyal enough to run away with him, without caring about the risks.

This shows that in a family being kind and caring is a must. Especially in a gang, where you have more family to care about. Along with this Pony is loyal.

This was done to show us that it is important to be kind and caring, especially in a society where people are judged with everything they do.

This reminds of a short filmed we watched in class called ‘Day Trip’, where a Maori gang member went into a bar and got judged by the people in the bar because he was in a gang, with them not knowing that all he wanted to do was feed his family.
SEXXXY 4

Ponyboy is also outgoing, willing to do anything for his friends.

He is always up for an adventure. We see this when he was willing to go away with Johnny to the park, lot and Jay Mountain. We also see this when he goes often to the drive in.

This shows that in some gangs some gang members are just in it to have fun and want to have an adventure. Ponyboy becomes more outgoing throughout the movie, as he was willing to fight for his brothers (The Greasers).

This was done to show us that some gang members/family members might just need a break from their current life or just to travel.

This can be juxtaposed to a scene in ‘Day Trip’ where a gang member just wanted to go overseas to have a break from the gang life.

Seasons Poem

Spring looks like sun hiding behind the clouds.
Spring tastes like freshly picked strawberries.
Spring smells like blooming flowers.
Spring feels like running through long, soft, green grass.
Spring sounds like kids splashing and having fun at the beach.

Summer looks like the sun shining down on the beach.
Summer tastes like delicious cookies and cream ice cream.
Summer smells like a picnic of fish n chips.
Summer feels like having an adventure.
Summer sounds like birds chirping in the trees.

Autumn looks like leaves raining.
Autumn tastes like pleasant, pumpkin soup.
Autumn smells like dead leaves.
Autumn feels like crisps wind blowing against your skin.
Autumn sounds like the crunching of leaves when they are stood on.

Winter looks like children gathering around the fireplace.
Winter tastes like bread, fresh out of the oven.
Winter smells like a cup of sweet hot chocolate.
Winter feels like putting your hands in front of the fire for warmth
Winter sounds like children having snowball fights.

HEADLINE:

Soc killed by Greaser, desperate to save his friend

Start story here:
17th July 1967, a date Johnny will remember for the rest of his life. Johnny, a hero, desperately tried to save his friend, who was forced into the water and held down by four socs. He was left with no option, but to use his switchblade. He described the night as ‘the worst night of his life’, even though he saved his friend from almost drowning to death. Ponyboy and Johnny said they were just sitting peacefully at the park, til a mustang pulls out, and five socs get out of the car and start to pick a fight. The socs separated them and started to beat them viciously. Johnny quotes that it was one of the hardest decisions to make, thinking about the consequences, and whether Ponyboy lives or not.

Compare and Contrast- Grease

There are a couple of differences between the films ‘Grease’ to ‘Grease Live’.One of them were the change of lyrics. For example, in Grease live, they changed a few lyrics off the ‘Greased Lightning’ song. Another example is when they excluded a Russian curse word the Rizzo sings in the song ‘Sandra Dee’.

Apart from the differences I found that both musicals are very entertaining. The scene 'Greased lightning' stood out in both movies, but i felt that the original was better. Mainly because John Travolta did a better job at playing 'Danny Zuko' and the original choreography for this scene was better, it kept the audience interested.

English Essay- The Power of One

SEXXXY 1

In the Power of One, close up shots are used effectively.

We see this when Geel Piet is forced to eat the poo off Boorman’s foot, a close up is shot of Geel Piet’s face.

This technique created impact by making the audience think of how cruel Boorman is Geel Piet.

The director did this to show how much power the white people had over the black people.

This worked well with  the over the shoulder shot on Boorman’s face, this showed how much hate white people hated the black people

This aspect can be compared with when, PK is being bullied by Botha, a close up shot of PK’s face was used to show how scared and worried he is.
SEXXXY 2

In the power of one, threnody is used.

We see this after Pk pushes Botha onto the stick, threnody was used to show the scene getting more intense.

This makes the audience feel nervous about what’s going to happen next. It gives the audience the Idea that something bad is going to happen.

The purpose of this was to make the scene more dramatic.

This worked well with the short silence just before the threnody came in. It made the scene more dramatic and interesting.

This aspect can be compared to a scene in Jaws, where the shark is going closer to its target. Threnody was used to make the scene more intense.
SEXXXY 3

In the power of one, high angles are used.

We see this when PK is being bullied by Botha. A high angle shot is used looking down a PK, to show that Botha is stronger and taller than PK.

This makes the audience think that PK is weak, and makes them feel sorry for PK.

The director did this to show who has the power, in this case, it was Botha.

Combined with the expression on PK’s face this emphasizes on the idea that he is scared of Botha because he is strong and has all the power.

This reminds of the over the shoulder shots used when Geel Piet is being forced to eat the poo off Sargent’s foot. A over the shoulder shot is shot of Boorman’s face looking down at Geel Piet, giving the audience the idea of how Boorman has all the power over Geel Piet.
SEXXXY 4

In the Power of One, sound effects are used.

We see this in a scene of Geel Piet and Boorman, sound effects of buzzing flies are used.

This makes the audience think about what is going to happen next and makes the audience think it’s disgusting.

The director did this to make the scene more engaging.

Combined with sound effects of Boorman sticking his feet in the poo and thumping his foot on the floor, this made the scene more interesting.

This can be compared to when Botha gets slapped by one of the guards, Sound effects was used to make the scene more dramatic.
